The Houston Mavericks volleyball team is under the direction of Coach Jenny Summers, who is entering her third season as the head women’s volleyball coach. A former coach at SATCH Volleyball in 2014/15, Summers took over as the program as head coach in 2016 when the organization retired the SATCH brand. Houston Homeschool Athletics Volleyball would see its first-ever NHSVBT National Junior Varsity Championship win and HSAA Texas State Junior High Homeschool Championship win, all in its very first season. Throughout 2016, the Mavericks would reap several tournament wins ending the season as junior high state and junior varsity national champions. In the 2017 season Summers would guide her team to another HSAA Texas State Junior High Championship win along with a 2nd place Gold Bracket finish in the Junior Varsity division.
Summers has coached her teams to several tournament championship wins in route to becoming 2016/2017 HSAA Texas State Homeschool Champions including: 2016/2017 LCSC Living Stones Jr. High Platinum Bracket Champions, 2016/2017 Baytown Christian Jr. High Champions, and 2015/2016 Texas Tornadoes Jr. High Champions. At the Junior Varsity level, Summers guided her team to victory at the 2016 NHSVBT JV National Championships with a 2016 Baytown Varsity 1st place Silver Bracket win and 2016 FAST Private School JV 3rd place Gold Bracket win. The Mavericks have won two consecutive Texas Tornadoes Private School Jr. High Tournament Championships with an undefeated season in 2016 Jr. High games under Summers’ leadership. The HHA Mavericks successfully defeated all opponents to once again become 2017 HSAA Junior High Texas State Champions, making this two successive Texas State Championship Wins.
During the off season, Coach Summers serves as a volleyball coach at Texas Legacy Volleyball Club. She has coached USA Junior Olympic volleyball for four years in Texas. Summers grew up in Portland, Oregon, where she started her career playing Junior Olympic volleyball at PIL Juniors and Nike Northwest. She attended college at Sam Houston State University where she studied nursing. Summers served as the Woodlands Legends 14u girls’ volleyball team assistant, serving under director Beverly Murphy. She then went on to head coach at Woodlands Revolution Volleyball Club under the guidance of directors Shelly Miller and Tiffany Edwards. Summers currently serves as a Head Coach at TLVC and is an active member of the USA Volleyball Coaches Association, a USA Volleyball IMPACT certified coach, a CAPS LEVEL I certified coach, as well as a USAV Certified Regional Referee.
